What NOT to Take to the Airport
Make your airport process smoother and get to vacation faster!
Don’t Get Frisked
It is such a weird word…”frisked.” But, it can seriously happen to you if you’re not at least a little educated about some of the basic airport procedures and guidelines. Take it from us, there are tons of ways to prolong your airport experience by accident and we hope to keep that from happening to you. On the other side of the metal detectors and bag checks lies endless beaches and relaxation, so it’s better you read this first. 👀
Most of the items below pertain to carry-on bags, with some general tips about your checked bags. Reach out to our team for more guidance on what you can and can’t take on a plane or check out TSA official guidance right here.
#1: Let’s Talk Liquids
We want you to meet 3-1-1, and no not the band. This is actually the 3-1-1 rule that you can expect in just about every airport you pass through. So, officially the TSA limits liquids, aerosols, creams, and pastes to 3.4 oz (100 milliliters) per container on carry-on bags. That’s…well, not a lot. So that means no extra water bottles or anything that is even close to a liquid over that amount. Our expert recommendation is to consider travel sizes of lotions etc…
If you just connected the dots on why travel sizes exist, you’re welcome.
#2: Sharps & Flames
Again, that would make for a sick band name—but, we’re definitely still talking about airports. Listen, it’s generally never a good idea to bring ANYTHING that is flammable, makes flame, is pointy (like a knife), or anything that could potentially cause harm to someone else. This DOES include even things like keychain pepper spray.
Firearms also fall into their own class of guidelines and laws so it is especially important to be on top of those regulations as well. For most vacationers, these items won’t even be close to being on your list, but it’s always a good reminder.
#3: Medications
Even controlled substances that are used medically can cause some travelers concern when entering an airport with them. We do suggest that you carry either physically or digitally your prescriptions or written requests from your physicians just in case you are questioned about any medications. However, you ARE allowed to travel with whatever medications you need.
Obviously, restricting this would be detrimental to someone’s health, so the one tip we have here is that even though meds are allowed in check luggage, it’s better to keep those in your carry-on. If your checked luggage is lost, which CAN happen, you will at least have your medication with you.
Beep. Beep.
That’s the sound of the metal detector giving you the green check mark because you prepared and read this blog before you went on your trip. This is just a sliver of our expertise and as it turns out, we’re pretty expert at making top-notch luxury vacations too. Have questions?
