Trendsetting or a Vacation That You Love?

Your guide to planning a vacation that matches your vibe, not the trends.

Must Visit, Huh?

Every year it seems like a new “must visit” destination takes over social media. One year it’s Tulum. The next year it’s the Amalfi Coast. Then suddenly everyone is posting the same overwater bungalow photos, the same beach clubs, and the same sunset shots that look suspiciously identical.

Travel trends can be fun to watch, but they shouldn’t be the reason you choose where to go on vacation. The best vacations are the ones that make you happy, not the ones that get the most likes on Instagram.

Trends Are Not the End All Be All

When destinations become trendy, a few things usually follow. Prices go up. Crowds get bigger. And suddenly your relaxing getaway starts to feel a little like you’re waiting in line for a popular roller coaster.

Don’t get us wrong, some trending destinations are incredible. There’s a reason people love them. But the real question to ask is simple: Do you actually want to go there, or do you just feel like you’re supposed to?

What Is Fun to You?

Maybe your ideal trip is spending the week at an all inclusive resort where the hardest decision you make all day is whether to sit by the pool or on the beach. Maybe you want calm water, great food, and a hammock somewhere in the shade.

Maybe your perfect vacation involves snorkeling in the morning, beachside tacos for lunch, and watching the sunset with a frozen drink in your hand. And maybe, just maybe, your biggest daily accomplishment is finishing a really good book before the end of the trip.

That sounds like a pretty successful vacation to us.

It’s Not Trendy to Chase Trends

On the other hand, chasing trends can sometimes lead to vacations that feel rushed. People try to pack every “must do” activity into their itinerary because they saw it online. Suddenly the trip becomes less about relaxing and more about keeping up.

And if you come home needing another vacation to recover from your vacation… something might have gone wrong.

The truth is, there is no universal “best” destination. The perfect trip is the one that matches your personality, your travel style, and what you actually enjoy doing. Some travelers love exploring cities, visiting landmarks, and trying new restaurants every night. Others want warm sand, calm water, and a chair that magically refills their drink whenever it’s empty. Both approaches are completely valid travel strategies.

Trust the Beach Bums Instead

At Beach Bum Vacations, we believe the goal isn’t to follow whatever destination is trending this year. The goal is to plan a trip that fits you. Because when you’re watching the sunset with your toes in the sand, the only trend that really matters is enjoying the moment.

And if your biggest decision of the day is “pool or beach first?” you’re probably doing vacation exactly right.
