Sail Into the Sunset on a Cruise Wedding

Updated: Nov 29, 2018

When many couples consider the location for their destination wedding, they envision tying the knot on a romantic, sun-soaked beach in Hawaii, Mexico or the Caribbean. However, that is not the only way to celebrate your nuptials! For couples who want to get married on the high seas, there is also the option of planning a cruise ship wedding.

Citing data from the Cruise Lines International Association, The New York Times reported that between 2000 & 2010, the number of cruise weddings rose by 60 percent. Many couples have found this option to be cheaper than traditional destination weddings, but others simply like the idea of having their friends & family together on the same boat as they celebrate their love for each other. In this way, cruise weddings can be the perfect opportunity for families to spend some time together, get their feet in the sand & indulge in an all inclusive travel experience in honor of their favorite couple.

If you & your sweetie are considering this option, however, you should keep in mind that it's not for everyone. Some couples prefer to spend their honeymoon in privacy, which a cruise ship doesn't often provide. Along the same lines, some cruise lines have restrictions on when nuptials can take place, & may require couples to wed at port before departure.
