Get the Most Out of Your Honeymoon

Updated: Nov 29, 2018

After the buildup to the big day, you'll be relieved to jet off to an exotic destination with your new spouse. Of course, the possibilities are endless when it comes to planning your honeymoon, whether it's in Cancun or the Caribbean. Every couple is different, & naturally you'll want to take your preferences & passions into account when you're choosing a location & a resort.

This is a trip you're going to remember forever, so you want to make sure you get the most out of your memories. Here are some tips that can help you maximize both the romance & your budget:

Explore your room options Even if you are planning on spending more time on the beach than in your bed, you still need to think about what kind of room you want. Many resorts offer a variety of views & amenities with different suites, some of which might appeal to you more than others. Are you dying for a private terrace that looks out onto the ocean, or dreaming of a view of the majestic mountain peaks? Or would you rather have a butler waiting on you hand & foot? These are all things to take into account.

Tell the resort it's your honeymoon Once you've decided on a resort, don't forget to let them know that this is a special getaway. Many 5 star resorts will offer special treatment for honeymooners, including a welcome glass of bubbly or even "His & Her" robes. You might even wake up to a decadent breakfast in bed on your first morning. The resort may ask for a copy of your wedding invitation or marriage license for proof, but the effort is well worth it.

Don't be afraid to make requests A honeymoon is your time to relax & indulge, & your chosen resort will likely be willing to go to great lengths to make sure your every need & desire is satisfied – but that's only if they're aware of what would make you happy. If you or your spouse has dietary restrictions or allergies, or even if you just want extra towels in your room, call ahead & let the resort know. Of course, it's advisable to make restaurant reservations ahead of time as well to ensure that you can experience that special oceanfront dinner under the stars.

Ask the concierge The resort concierges are filled with insight into the on-site activities & dining options as well as information about the local area. Be sure to tap into their wealth of knowledge & you won't miss out on the little things that could make you honeymoon that much more memorable.
