Finding a Kid-Friendly Resort

Updated: Nov 29, 2018

When embarking on family vacations, it's crucial to find a resort that keeps everyone safe, happy & entertained, especially if you're traveling with younger children. However, when you're researching your luxury travel options, it can sometimes be hard to tell which resorts are kid friendly & which are adult only vacation spots.

The next time you're planning a family vacation in the Caribbean, Hawaii, Mexico or another sun-kissed destination, look for these signs that your resort is kid friendly:

Breathing room One of the most important steps in finding a kid-friendly resort is researching the room layouts. Of course, you want to get closer to your family on your Beach Bum Vacation, but you certainly don't want to be too close for comfort, especially if you're traveling in a large group. For this reason, you should look into suites with spacious living areas, or connecting rooms if you're children are a bit older.

A kid's menu You know how hard it can be to make your children finish their dinner at home, so make sure you take this into account when selecting a family friendly resort. Rather than choose a hotel with countless fine dining options, look into those that offer special meals for kids. At all inclusive resorts, it's often good to pick those that serve up quick meals, like hamburgers & sandwiches, so your kids can get their fill & head back to the soft, white sand.

Convenient attractions You & your spouse might want to lie on the beach all day on a family vacation in the Caribbean, but you'll probably find that your children have other ideas in mind. When your kids have had enough fun in the sun, you'll want to have plenty of attractions nearby to hold their interest. For this reason, it's a good idea to find a resort near popular, kid-friendly attractions, such as aquariums, nature centers & shopping areas. If your resort is set away from all the action, make sure it offers several excursions so you & your family can take a small break from the beach.

In-house entertainment While it's a good idea to take kids to attractions outside of your resort on family vacations, what if your kids get antsy on a day when you didn't plan one of these excursions? If you find a resort with plenty of kid-friendly activities, this won't be an issue. Many hotels have pools just for kids, complete with waterslides & volleyball courts, as well as amenities like arcades, rock-climbing walls & mini-golf courses to ensure you never hear the words "I'm bored" on your Beach Bum Vacation.

An option for 'me' time Family vacations are a great time to spend some quality time with your kids, but it's only natural that you & your spouse also want to indulge in some alone time. For this reason, try to find a resort that offers reliable childcare options. With a caring, responsible & well-trained staff to look after your little Beach Bums, you & your spouse can escape to the spa for a couples massage, or simply find your own private spot on the sand & enjoy the tropical sunshine. Whatever you choose to do, remember that everyone deserves a little "me" time.
