Dive Into the Action in Punta Cana

Updated: Nov 29, 2018

For those craving a little warm-weather action on their next Beach Bum Vacation to the Dominican Republic, Punta Cana might just be the perfect spot. Here, you can find activities ranging from world-class golf to unbelievable scuba diving – & in many cases, you won't even have to leave your luxury hotel in the Caribbean to find a little adventure.

Here are some can't-miss activities in Punta Cana, all of which are sure to spice up your beach vacation:

World-class golf There's no shortage of golf in Punta Cana, whether you're a novice or a world champion. If you're staying at the Hard Rock Hotel Punta Cana All Inclusive Collection, you won't have to go very far to hit the links, as this rockin' resort houses Punta Espada, one of the best golf courses in the Caribbean. Here, you can challenge yourself with some difficult holes while indulging in stunning views of the Caribbean Sea.

Deep-sea fishing A variety of independent charters operate out of Punta Cana to take you on a deep-sea fishing adventure. For a full or half-day, you & your captain will troll the deep blue Caribbean Sea for your next big catch, including blue & white marlin, mahi-mahi & sailfish.

Scuba diving If you want to indulge in the Dominican Republic's underwater beauty, make sure you add a scuba diving trip to your Beach Bum itinerary. Various independent or hotel-affiliated agencies will take new divers out on the open seas & allow them to explore shallow waters, but for more experienced divers, there is even more to see. Punta Cana is famous for its sunken ships, including the Monica & Astron wrecks, as well as its underwater caverns, like La Cueva. However, divers should be advised that if they visit Punta Cana during the winter months (December & January), they may have lower visibility underwater due to the strong Atlantic currents.

Kiteboarding Strong winter winds may be bad for scuba diving, but they're great for kiteboarding. Select independent groups, such as Kiteclub Punta Cana, will take you out to the open ocean, where you'll learn how to catch a wave in the Caribbean Sea as a large kite gives you extra speed. The Kiteclub offers beginner lessons for those who have never kitesurfed before, as well as intermediate & refresher lessons for Beach Bums with a little more experience.
